****PLEASE READ VERY IMPORTANT ABOUT NEW LAWS****
A lot of misinformation has been spread to patients since recreational use went into effect the first of the year. Most of the false info has been distributed by greedy dispensary owners operating ILLEGALLY without permits and their employees.
Your medical marijuana recommendations are 100% valid and you are much better off having a recommendation than not, regardless of what you are told by dispensary owners and employees. Here are just a few benefits:
- With a Medical Recommendation and State Card you will not have to pay the HIGH sales tax that will be imposed on recreational use purchases. In order to qualify for the state card you must first have a Doctor's Medical Recommendation like the one we issue or your county will not approve you.
- With a recommendation you can purchase and possess up to 8 ounces of dry bud and edibles, oils, or any form it comes in with normal amounts of THC, that you have always used. Recreational use will NOT allow for this, they can have only serving sizes that have no more than 10 milligrams of THC, which means it will take a much larger amount to be purchased for it to help medically.
- With a MMJ Card you can grow 6 mature plants or 12 immature plants and possess up to 8 ounces of dry bud. Recreationally you can only possess up to 1 ounce of dry bud.
- With a MMJ card you can access more dispensaries state wide. With a card you can go to medical or recreational dispensaries.
- With an exemption on your medical recommendation you can grow whatever your medical need is. This exempts you from the 6 mature plant and 8 ounce rule, you can grow as much as you need for your medical need. This is not allowed for recreational use.
- All ages protected with a medical recommendation. Recreational is for over 21yo only.
- Patients with Child Custody concerns are protected with an MMJ Card in court. There is no protection in these matters under recreational use!!
- Ultimately with a medical recommendation you are safer legally and medically, knowing a doctor's office is here for you.
Many of the dispensaries are operating completely illegally and are not supposed to be selling recreationally, however they are selling whatever they want to whomever they want. Charging different taxes all the time. We have heard of some charging 25% and others charging 45% in taxes. All wrong!!!

If they are not on the list then do not purchase from them, they are not licensed to sell medical cannabis legally and you are breaking the law by purchasing from them.
Most of the medical dispensaries operating are legitimate and doing good work for the medical and recreational community. But, there are some bad apples taking advantage of patients in the confusion that is prevalent right now. This will come to an end. We are here to fight for and protect our patients and their rights. We have started referring all illegal dispensaries (giving false info to our patients) to the Bureau of Cannabis Control and the California Attorney Generals office and we will continue to do so.
